Knee Pain

Knee pain and dysfunction are particularly common among two groups of people, athletes/physically active individuals and the elderly. Either way, knee pain can significantly impact your daily activities. Beyond that, if you are suffering with knee pain, chances are, it is causing problems elsewhere such as your feet or hips, as your body attempts to compensate for the pain. Athletes and those who engage in sports on a regular basis often experience knee pain due to trauma and overuse, whereas the elderly population experience knee pain due to arthritis.

Knee Pain

Types of knee pain:

Acute injuries such as meniscus or ACL tears, joint arthritis, Osgood-Schlatters disease, ITB syndrome (runners knee), patella tracking problems, and referred pain from the lower back and hip region.

Causes of knee pain:

What is the most common cause of knee pain?

Once we have ruled out any underlying disease or problem, the most common causes of knee pain are mechanical in nature. Other than trauma from injuries or over-use, one of the most common causes of knee pain is changes in the lower back, pelvis and hip area.

If these areas are not well balanced it changes how the individual is weight bearing. Unnecessary weight bearing onto the knee joints is a common cause of knee pain. This is often the result of poor posture and spinal alignment.

How chiropractic & osteopathy helps people with knee pain?

At Dr. Waldt's office, we take a holistic approach with knee problems, we treat your entire body, not just at the site of injury. There can be many factors into what is causing your pain, so it is essential we provide an accurate diagnosis.

Our process involved a complimentary consultation which allows us to determine if we are in fact the right people to help you. If we are not, we will be sure to refer you to the right people. If we deem that we can help you, you will move on to a paid examination.

During this examination process, we will perform a range of orthopaedic, neurological, and musculoskeletal tests in order to find out what is the problem. Once we have all of this information, we will report back to you with our findings.

From here we will create a personalized treatment plan, designed to help you recover naturally. Our treatment approach will include spinal adjustments, adjustments to the joints of the body, muscle work, plus the prescription of rehab exercises and stretches. We may also provide prescription medication.

With knee pain, we will also look at the lifestyle factors that have led to the injury and help you make modifications as necessary to precent future instances.
